Furoshiki - the Art of Wrapping

Furoshiki (風呂敷, furoshiki) is a Japanese traditional wrapping cloth. It is simply a square piece of cloth that can be tied in many ways, depending on what you are wrapping. Not only is it beautiful it has all the buzz words of today, it can be re-used, recycled, made out of recycled fabric and it reduces all need for wrapping paper!

There are several places you can buy the square fabric online, most of which are now made from recycled PET bottles or you can make your own. Dig into the remnant box at your local fabric shop.

Find out more on infomapjapan and wikihow
Even the Japanese Government has issued a guide on how to use Furoshiki.

Cork Design Week

This year Cork Design Week is on from Thursday 14th May until Sunday 24th May 2009

What is it?

Well, I'm not exactly sure. It was on last year but I never heard about it. It seemed to be part of Design Week Ireland, which had events in 9 counties last year.

Here's a link to their website which lists events held in Cork last year.

So, I'm still not 100% sure what is going on for Cork Design Week, but they are looking for craft workers/designers to showcase. So if you live in Cork and want to apply, there is info and application forms on the Cork City Enterprise Board website.
