Expandable Books: Learn the Art of Book Making with Eilis Murphy at Lorg Printmakers, Galway

lorg-printmakersMarch 28th and 29th from 11 am to 3 pm | £90 for Lorg members/£120 for non-members.
Deposit of £50 MUST be paid in order to secure place.
Lorg Printmakers, Unit 8 Ballybane Enterprise Centre, Ballybane, Galway

In this two-day workshop, participants will create a variety of sewn and glued books, which make excellent sketchbooks, journals or artist’s books. Using simple sewing techniques, participants will be encouraged to develop their own distinctive bookbindings, ones that can expand and evolve in unexpected ways.
We will make a loop stitch binding: an exposed sewing in which stitches are shown on the book’s spine; a panelled accordion book: a glued structure which is perfect for displaying drawings and other artwork; a dos-à-dos book: a binding where two or more separate books are bound together; and some other alternative book structures.
Participants will also gain knowledge of how to use basic book binding tools and the principals of bookbinding including grain direction, gluing and folding tips.
Participants are encouraged to bring along any ideas, decorative paper, found objects or artwork that they would like to incorporate into their books.

Participants need to bring: Stanley knife/scalpel, cutting mat, ruler and pencil.
All other materials will be supplied.
