INTRODUCTION TO TEXTILE PRINTING TECHNIQUES

This introductory course to printed textiles covers all the basics and more to get you started in textile printing. You will explore a variety of printing techniques, including: block printing; screen-printing using paper stencils; screen-printing using the photo sensitive technique as well as screen and image preparation, colour mixing, and fixing and caring for printed fabrics. The course will equip you with a good understanding of all the processes involved, which most importantly can even be adapted for working on at home. Suitable for beginners. A basic supply of materials is included in fee.

SCREEN PRINTING ON FABRIC: PHOTO STENCIL TECHNIQUE
2 day workshop
Saturday 25 April + Saturday 9 May
10.30am – 4.30pm

An introductory 2-day course focusing on the photo stencil technique of screen printing (a durable semi permanent stencil). Participants will learn how to prepare and create b&w images for screen using hand drawn or digital imagery, as well as experimenting with different printed imagery, print surfaces, registration, colour-layering and mixing and much more. A thorough introduction for those wishing to begin screen-printing on fabric or for those wishing to advance their skills as a follow on from our Introduction to Textile Printing Techniques course! PRINT BASICS FOR SPRING
1 day workshop
Saturday 28 March
11.00am – 3.00pm
Price €95, 8 places available
Bring a touch of Spring into your home: create your own personalised screen printed homeware with a selection of floral and botanical designs. Participants will learn about colour mixing and basic registration. Basic printing materials are provided in fee, including: 2 t-towels, 4 napkins and 1 apron. Print Block’s New Print Workshops

Kick-start your printing this November with Print Block’s new range of taster workshops in printed textiles; develop skills, apply new printing techniques such as reactive and repeat printing, and much more.  Suitable for those with some previous printing experience or ideal as a follow on from any Print Block beginners workshops.


Flock & Foiling

Experiment with flocking and foiling papers to create textured and metallic printed surfaces through screen-printing and hand-painted techniques.



Reactive Dyes
Saturday 22 November
10.30am - 2.30pm
€85, 6 places

Explore the medium of reactive dyes through screen-printing, hand-painting and painted-screen techniques. In this session you will experiment with printing pastes and work on a variety of silks and cotton.



Discharge
Saturday 29 November
10.30am - 2.30pm
€85, 6 places

Experiment with white and colour discharge printing. Using different dyed coloured grounds or existing prints: learn how discharge printing can achieve light or bright colours on dark backgrounds, creating striking and unusual results.


A basic provision of materials are included in all the above workshops. Course specific information about what to bring along will be circulated in advance of the workshop date.

Create your own 1-colour repeat pattern: in this intensive course you will print your own full scale 3-metre length, learning how to design for repeat printing, manually or by computer and to prepare the table for printing using registration techniques.

‘DAMN FINE CITY’ | Screenprint Spectacular at Filmbase

Damn Fine Print and the Laya Healthcare City Spectacular (formerly World Street Performance Championship) have teamed up to present DAMN FINE CITY, a screenprint spectacular featuring artworks designed by six of Ireland’s leading illustrators. 

Come and join us for a sun-downer on opening night, Wed 9th of July from 6-10pm at Film Base Templebar to celebrate Dublin in Screenprint. There’ll be delicious summer poitin cocktails from the kind folk at the Glendalough Distillery, DJ’s, screen print demo’s from our mobile print crew and live framing by the wonderful Hang Tough. We’ve asked some of the most exciting creative talent in Ireland (and indeed the world) to climb inside their imaginations, and conjure up captivating artworks inspired by our spectacular city and what that means to them. Over the last few weeks, we’ve been busy in the studio screenprinting their artwork. This time we are going large format, 500mm X 700mm using 3 colours and overlaying transparent colours to create even more effects. THE LINE UP:

• Annie Atkins, fresh from being lead graphic designer on Wes Anderson’s Grand Budapest Hotel has picked a landmark that all Dubliners will recognise.
• Chris Judge, illustrator of remarkable Children’s books such as the Lonely Beast has made the Dublin Architecture come alive.
• M&E have made a beautiful artwork using similar unique techniques to their much lauded OFFSET credits.
• Steve Simpson has picked two of Irelands great artists and added his signature style to a wonderfully intricate piece.
• Kevin Waldron, living in New York, came home to soak in Dublin before making a wonderfully colourful Dublin scene.
• Peter Donnelly has paid homage to a Dublin legend who himself captured so many memories for Irish people.
