New Contemporary Applied Arts: Ceramics/Glass/Textiles  Degree Course at the Crawford College of Art and Design Cork.

CAO Deadline February 1 is fast approaching for this new innovative and unique programme offering specialisation in Ceramics, Glass, or Textiles, or interdisciplinary combinations of these.  Emphasis on thinking through making, in the context of contemporary art practice and current debate on the role of the object and of process/making in critical theories of fine and applied art.  

Experimental hands-on exploration; dialogue across materials and categories.  Exciting opportunities for exchange programmes in textiles with Kaunas Art Academy, Lithuania, and with China Art Academy, Hangzhou.  Expanded studios and equipment in textiles.  

Possible entry to Year 2 in autumn 2013 for applicants holding Level 6.

UPDATE on Crawford College of Art and Design new Fine ARt Textiles Course

The CIT Crawford College of Art and Design in Cork is launching a new part time Level 8 Fine Art Textiles course to begin this September!

Cork is alive with textiles interest and textiles excellence.  Now the Crawford College of Art and Design is recognising and accommodating the demand for third-level education in textiles with a new part-time Level 8 Special Purpose Award in Fine Art Textiles. 

About the Course:
One full day of Textiles Studio, plus a ½ day of Textiles History and Theory each week, over two years culminating in a Level 8 Certificate worth 30 Degree credits.

Creative Textiles course in Cork

Is one of the premier design colleges in the country and an approved fashion centre for the London City and Guilds Examinations.

In addition to the three-year Diploma in Fashion Design, there are courses in fashion, dressmaking and pattern drafting, as well as occasional millinery training.

If you are interested in studying Textiles full time, The Ballyfermot College of Further Education in Dublin, runs a Two Year BTEC validated programme.

Higher National Diploma in Fibre Art

This multi-disciplinary course aims to provide students with a wide and versatile range of skills within the area of Fibre Art and to produce highly innovative and creative artists with a professional approach and attitude to their work. Strong emphasis is placed on the integration of visual studies and design skills with a contemporary approach to applied art techniques.

Course Content:
Year One: Visual Studies, Textile Art, Fine Art Printmaking, Printed Textiles, Ceramic Art Techniques, Historical and Contemporary Studies.

Year Two:Visual Studies, Textile Art, Printed Textiles, Fine Art Photography, Critical Studies and Producing the Artifact.

Entry Requirements:
Leaving Certificate / LCVP with a minimum of two HC3s one of which must be in Art and three passes at ordinary level or any FETAC level 5 Certificate in Art with a merit profile. A portfolio which shows creativity and artistic ability in this area should be brought to interview (See guidelines). The academic entry requirements may be waived for mature applicants (21+).

Certification:
BTEC Higher National Diploma in Fibre Art

Portfolio Guidelines:
A portfolio must be presented at interview which includes observational drawing, ideas notebooks and finished pieces. These should show an exploration of themes, drawing approaches and media.
