Our classes include hand and machine embroidery, printing on fabric, dyeing using indigo, procion and acid dyes, feltmaking, and various design techniques.  

The classes are ongoing and suitable for both beginners and those who want to extend their skill base.

Masterclass Felt Workshop led by Nancy Ballesteros, Dublin

Feltmakers Ireland are thrilled to host a Masterclass workshop led by Nancy Ballesteros, from Treetops Fibres in Perth, Australia. If you aren’t familiar with Treetops, do have a look at their website. The colours are magnificent. Nancy is offering a two and a half day workshop titled Abstract Aprons.

Over the workshop we will develop our  patterns and create beautiful wrap-arounds using superfine merino, silk hankies and silk fabric. The materials for this workshop are not included in the cost of the class. Nancy will bring her magnificent fibres and silks for you to purchase, or you are free to bring your own. Be aware however that if you wish to have results like Nancy’s, with the correct sizing and shrinkage, you need to bring the correct micron fibres. Five designs are on offer and the materials from Nancy will vary from approximately €40 to €90 per garment.

We are able to offer this  workshop for a wonderful price of only€140 for fully paid up members of Feltmakers Ireland, or €170 for non-members. As our guild exists mainly to support our members, places are allocated by lottery among members first. Any remaining places are then allocated by a second lottery among non-member applicants.

The workshop will be held in the Church of Ireland Parish Centre in Lucan, Co Dublin. Starting Monday the 27 th, 1:30 to 4:30. Tuesday and Wednesday will go from 10:00 until 5:00.

Felt Making Classes - Textile Art

Ancient techniques, Contemporary designs in Felt making

Weekly classes will begin on Tuesday 9th September 

 in Kilpedder, Co. Wicklow, (near Greystones) 

Time: 10.30am until 1pm.

We will experiment with a range of felt making techniques including Nuno, Shibori, and working with templates to make beautiful vessels, bags or any 3d shape that can be applied to felt to create striking three-dimensional effects in your felted fabric. The main focus is on experimentation and discovery.

Inspired by beauty in simple form, Nessa’s style brings together her love and fascination of the natural world and felt making in sculptural form.

Nessa has been exploring and teaching shibori and nuno felting techniques in her more recent works and is particularly interested in the contemporary approach of binding metal pieces with delicate fibres such as silk and lace with wool.

These classes are suitable for beginner to advanced felt-makers of all levels

Feltmakers Ireland are delighted to announce details of our forthcoming exhibition to be held in Farmleigh in Dublin at the end of September

Common Ground 

Building bridges through feltmaking

 25th September - 12th October 2014

An exhibition of felt works by members of Feltmakers Ireland and feltmakers from Hungary to celebrate the friendship we built up over the past few years through our common interest and love of feltmaking . We have shared and exchanged skills, explored each other`s history, traditions and heritage. We are actively creating heritage for the future through our shared passion for handcrafts in our multi-cultural world. This ancient craft is a great medium for innovation and design.

Brief:

Building connections has never been easier. Technology allows us to keep in touch with each other easily, making friends, getting to know each other even if we`ve never met or never will. We may not even understand each others languages but  speak the common language of felt. As part of a complex network system we play different roles by different rules in our modern multi-cultural society.

 We are connected by our shared passion for an ancient craft which is undergoing a  renaissance and where we are creating heritage for the future. Current issues on common ground.
