This is an intense and exciting workshop that covers the following techniques; making fabulous coiled wire beads using a wire coiling gizmo, the art of stitching seed beads and coiled wire onto the felt beads and basic jewellery making techniques. Basic sewing skills are necessary for this workshop. There will also be a demonstration of making felted beads using a felting needle.  €75.00

Thursday 20th September - Silk Paper Making - Learn all about silk fibre and how to make luscious sheets of silk paper and embossed silk paper leaves. Silk paper is very strong and can be cut and stitched for further surface embellishment for use in greetings cards, collage, hollow forms etc.

Friday 12th October – Textile Art Jewellery Making – using commercial felt and other materials learn how to create these stunning rolled textile beads. This workshop involves aspects of design, bead work, wirework, basic jewellery making techniques and stitching. There will be a wide range of exciting materials to choose for embellishment such as metallic threads, wire and beads. The ability to use a fine needle and thread are required for this class. Cost €75.00

Sunday 21st October - Copper Art Clay with Lise Fahy - Spend a day making jewellery using ArtClay Copper. ArtClay Copper is a clay-like material embedded with particles of pure copper, which is fired in kiln to produce stunning pure copper jewellery, In this full day course, participants will receive 25 grams of copper, which is enough to make several large pendants. Over the course of the day, you will learn the basic skills for working with copper art clay (skills which can also be applied to working with silver clay). Please note that firing and preparing copper clay for finishing takes an hour, so we will run a number of firings throughout the day, with the last firing taking place at 2.45pm. Cost €90.00

Friday 26th October – 1 Day Luxury Jewellery Making Workshop – make a gorgeous sterling silver charm bracelet, using semi precious stones, hand made flame worked glass beads, fresh water pearls, faceted crystals, silver charms and findings. This workshop involves aspects of design and wirework techniques……. how to combine beads and findings to make dangles and how to make wire wrapped loops to securely attach the dangles to the bracelet. All the charms and findings are sterling silver. The price includes all materials for a 7 to 8 inch sterling silver bracelet and up to 12 dangles. Cost €120.00 per person

Thursday 8th November - Metal work - Make a unique pendant or a garden ornament using copper sheet, art glass beads and wire. This workshop offers aspects of design and many techniques using wire and sheet copper....forging, cutting, disc making, melting wire into ball ends and how to make  wire wrapped loops.  Cost €75.00 (4 places left)

All courses run from 10am to 4.30pm. Please bring a packed lunch I provide drinks and light refreshments. A 50% deposit is required with bookings. 3D Needle Felted Figures
Thursday 2nd February
Special Offer for the first workshop of the year - €67.50 per person (usual price €75.00)
Learn how to use a felting needle to sculpt wool. In this detailed workshop you will learn how to make a wire armature and various felting techniques to build your figurative form, there will be   lots of tips and guidance on how to add features, hair and clothes. This is a new and exciting craft and has endless possibilities for a creative mind. This craft involves using a very sharp needle and is not suitable for children under 12 years. 2 places left.

Silver Clay Workshop – Pendants and Rings with Lisa Fahy
Sunday 4th March  
Due to the expensive cost of materials (metal clay is 99% pure silver) for this workshop pricing is higher than usual – you will make a minimum of three pieces.  €130.00
This full day workshop provides an introduction to working with silver clay. In the morning, we will practice basic metal clay skills by making pendants. In the afternoon, we will use those skills and more to design rings. All of the jewellery can be worn home at the end of the day. 

Copper Work – Copper and Art Glass Bead Pendant.
Thursday 26th April 
Design and make a copper pendant from scratch. This workshop is an introduction to basic copper work on a small scale for jewellery. Learn how to forge, cut and stamp sheet copper, melt copper wire to form a ball end and make a wire wrapped loop. No experience is needed. Cost €75.00
Friday 27th April –More Copper Work – this workshop is a continuation from the day before, giving students the opportunity to make more pieces and further their knowledge. Cost €50.00 for those that have booked day 1.

Cost €160.00. (covers two days) Class limited to six students.
This workshop is aimed at both beginners and basket weavers wishing to explore a different shape i.e. a shopper or small turf basket. The aim of the course is to give as thorough an introduction as possible to making a basket, from making the base to finishing the border, in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.


All courses run from 10am to 4.30pm.
A 50% deposit is required with bookings. Deposits are non-refundable but your booking can be transferred with 7 days notice. Please pay online, credit card or send a P.O. or a cheque made payable  to Derryaun Crafts with your booking.

This is a two day  exploration of the use of natural materials and their potential in creating sculptures and bark drawings in the beautiful setting of Derryaun, Drummin.  In this time we will have an overview of environmental art and will through walks identify and collect material that is suitable for making sculpture. Cost €160.00 (covers two days)

Beginners Creative Textile Course

19th of June from 11am - 4.30pm.
A one day workshop in the basics of Feltmaking, Stitching, Embroidery & Beading

Workshop participants will experiment together in making sample textiles that can then be used for Brooch making & Card making - which they can then take home!

The course will run in Spiddal, Co. Galway overlooking Connemara landscape with a view of the sea.

This is one of my favourite crafts, it offers endless possibilities for either 3D or flat decorative pieces, it takes up little space and there is no mess with soap and water. This craft involves using a very sharp needle and is not suitable for children under 12 years. No experience is needed. Cost. €75.00

Sunday 12th June. Make stunning lanterns with Tom Meskell. This year’s theme is ‘Birds’ More workshop information to follow. 

Tom Meskell has developed a reputation for working in many media, mainly in his ability to work with groups and as a coordinator of people in creating  art work. His most successful projects have been sculptural lantern projects and environmental sculpture projects, tom is also a highly respected arts in health practitioner. Tom’s work has appeared in the Kilkenny arts festival, Roula Boula Festival, Public art award with Mayo Co Co, Cosan Glas environmental sculpture trail, New ground environmental sculpture project, Raumers residency Finland,  to name but a few. Cost €85.00 Class limited to six students. Closing date for bookings 22nd May.

 
Thurs and Fri 1st & 2nd Sept. Basket Weaving With Joe Hogan, Renowned Master Craftsman.

What people need to bring; Craft knife/stanly knife. Walking shoes and a rain jacket, a camera and a pruning tool. Your favourite found objects –shells, stones, sea washed glass, bog wood, drift wood, feathers, rusty metal etc.

All courses run from 10am to 4.30pm.
The cost of each course includes materials & light refreshments, please bring a packed lunch, and a note book will be useful. A 50% deposit is required with bookings.
