Craft Magic; New needlecraft and papercraft supplier in Co. Cork
Craft Magic
A new craft shop has opened in Midleton, Co Cork.
It will stock everything for Needlecrafts and Papercrafts.
Craft Magic will specialise in cross stitch, tapestry, long stitch, rug making and embroidery, as well as card making and scrapbooking supplies.
The shop is in the Courtyard Gallery, behind 8 Main Street, Midleton, Co Cork and is open from Tuesday to Saturday 10.00 to 1.30 then 2.00 to 5.30.

Helpers Wanted: Exchange Market Renovation
Wanted; People in Art, Craft, Design, Making, Music,
Photography, Event Management and P.R. as well as anyone with enthusiasm,
motivation and willingness to really get stuck into a project.
Exchange Dublin are seeking helpers to assist them in their
endeavour of running a stonkingly good monthly Art, Craft+Design Market. This
Market is currently something of a one woman show – and that woman thinks it
could multiply in greatness with a team of people to propel it. This shebang is
in need of P.R., online contribution, physical work, word spreading and clever
thinking. It has so much potential. We have a beautiful indoor space with
enormous windows and wooden floors, a kitchen, wifi and an existing list of
stallholders. We believe that with the right level of organisation and some
contribution from lots of people this monthly event could be a fantastic and
memorable experience. As with everything in our not for profit Collective Arts
Centre all positions are voluntary. Funds raise! d from stallholders money goes
towards financing Exchange and keeping it running as many free, inclusive, all
ages events as possible.
What you will gain from your work with us: Experience of
event management as well as of working within a team in a uniquely open minded
and flexible collective. The benefits of being an active part of your craft
market. Whether you have a little time or a lot of time to give we would love
your help. References will be provided in return.

International Quilt Festival of Ireland 2012, Galway

"Unlike other quilt festivals and conventions held around the
world, where all the functions take place in an enormous convention hall, our
festival will be located on the beautiful NUI campus in Galway, Ireland, where
we are designing a special Quilter’s Village on the banks of the River Corrib.
Here you’ll be able to walk around and enjoy all the special attractions this
village has to offer.
There will be a Quilter’s Market where you can buy
everything from Irish crafts to traditional Irish Brown Bread, the Fat Quarters
Chocolate Shop, a School House for our hands-on quilting classes, a Quilter's
Canteen that seats over 800 people, over a dozen special quilt exhibits on
display in various buildings throughout the village, and the Town Hall, where
you will find over 50 vendors who have created booths to tease you with their
latest state-of-the-art products and services!"
Individual Rate: €15 euros per day/3 day pass for €28
Group rate: 10 or more people is €13 euros per person per
day/€25 euros per person for a 3 day pass.
There is also a range of non-quilting classes including an
overnight “Knitting in the Aran Islands tour”, Jewelry Making, Felt Making, Knitting,
Crocheting, Pottery, Irish Lace Making, Weaving, Stained Glass Making, Candle
Making, Glass Making , Basket Weaving, Embroidery, Painting, Beading, Doll

director is Jim West. Jim is originally from Illinois in America, but now calls
Galway, Ireland his home. He is the owner of Sew Many Places travel company and
publisher of the free, quarterly magazine for quilters called Quiltposium, with

be some food and drinks, free face-painting for the little ones and you can
meet some of the talented Crafts people. And of course you can browse the
beautiful range of craft items and art works available.
Truly Gifted is a unique concept. We provide a platform for Irish
artists and crafts people to sell their products without any retail mark-up.
The way we do it is simple. We rent out spaces in the shop at a fair monthly
price. This is the only cost to the crafts person. The artists and crafts
people then set their own prices and keep 100% of the sales. This means no
profit for us and we don’t charge commission. We just rent the spaces.
This is a perfect opportunity for designers who have an established product and lack a steady outlet for their work and we are always looking for new designers with great products for our shop.
We choose distinctive and experienced arts and crafts people. With these artisans we develop a close relationship. This relationship is key to providing customers with great value.

Majella who manages the centre is also a glass artist and
will have her glass studio there on the premises as well. She will give
demonstrations and classes in glass fusing. There will also be a variety of
classes by other talented crafts people for both adults and children. Bookings

Our aim is to support Irish craft through fair and honesty
as well as good value for the consumer. We do this by renting out parts of the
showroom. We do not do a mark-up OR take a commission which is rarely seen in
Ireland.
Truly Gifted is so much more then a gift shop. There is the
glass studio, glass fusing workshops, children and adult art classes as well as
some art on the walls. We are more of a creative centre always growing and
changing.

Yarn Classes in The South East
Yarn Classes run by Irene Lundgaard are now available in the South East. Classes are given in trendy Crochet and the exiting technique of Tunisian Crochet as well as Continetal style knitting and Fair Isle knitting. Weekly morning crochet classes will commence in The Shillelagh Room at Rathwood, Tullow, Co Carlow in September and evening classes will commence in The Market Square House, Tinahely, Co Wicklow also.
Irene also provides a tailor made yarn class facility for groups of friends, social clubs etc. and private tuition can be arranged too. If you have the people and premises she'll be there to teach.
Irene, who is one of the organizers of the hugely successful Pick Up Your Needles workshops, that have been going on in Wicklow over the past year, is also giving weekly classes at The Yarn Room, Ashford, Co Wicklow.

Furoshiki - the Art of Wrapping
Furoshiki (風呂敷, furoshiki) is a Japanese traditional wrapping cloth. It is simply a square piece of cloth that can be tied in many ways, depending on what you are wrapping. Not only is it beautiful it has all the buzz words of today, it can be re-used, recycled, made out of recycled fabric and it reduces all need for wrapping paper!
There are several places you can buy the square fabric online, most of which are now made from recycled PET bottles or you can make your own. Dig into the remnant box at your local fabric shop.
