22 March, 19:00
University of Ulster, Belfast.
‘sampler-cultureclash’ is an
international collective of DJs, embroiderers, sound artists, textile
designers, dancers, and more. It explores the connections between textiles and
sound and the cultures of embroidery and DJ-ing.
‘sampler-cultureclash’ was
commissioned to create this performance following two days spent at the
University of Ulster, gathering sounds and images from the workshops, studios
and machine rooms on the York Street campus. The piece will be created as part
of the performance, using the material gathered over the residency.
David Littler is an artist,
curator, educator and DJ, based in London. He was a freelance print textile
designer and worked for a variety of couture fashion houses around the world.
Jason Singh is a
multi-disciplinary artist, principally a human beatboxer and vocal sculptor. He
has worked with the National Portrait Gallery, BFI, Glastonbury Festival, The
Sage Gateshead and the BBC proms, to name but a few. He recently recorded a session
for the Radio 3’s Late Junction and is currently the Sound Art Resident at the
V&A.
Yusra Warsama is a performance
poet and actor. She has worked alongside artists such as Morganics, Sista
Native and Lemn Sissay, Don Letts, Skinnyman and Mad Flow. She is currently
filming Savage, a new 4-part drama for BBC1.
