Dingle Workhouse Arts Centre Project, Kerry
Funds have become available for an arts/cultural centre in Dingle town. A group of artists, craftspersons, musicians, dancers, etc, is being formed to try get the Old Workhouse/Hospital chosen as the venue for the proposed centre.
"The Dingle Workhouse was constructed in 1849. It served as a work house, and later a community hospital. Its new incarnation we hope will be as a multimedia, performance and visual arts center."
A provisional meeting with the Minister of Arts, Jimmy Deenihan, has been arranged for the beginning of June, to persuade him to look at the building as a real option, and one the community of Dingle want.
A Facebook group and a blog have been set up to get the discussion going about how this building can be used. If you are based in Kerry and are interested in this project, please join the discussion, get involved. This is a huge project and the potential is incredible!
