NEWS: Craft Inspired Covers

We recently came across this article on 'Creative Review', about a series of Penguin books that are being re-published, with re-designed covers. Naturally enough, we love them!!

Six of Penguin's most popular recent fiction titles have been redesigned as a set with new craft-inspired covers. The Penguin By Hand series makes use of embroidery, crochet and quilting, with each technique further evoked on paper through the use of some serious embossing...

Wednesdays starting September 23rd 10.00 - 12.30
or
Thursdays starting September 24th 10.00 – 12.30

Our classes include hand and machine embroidery, printing on fabric, dyeing using indigo, procion and acid dyes, feltmaking, and various design techniques.  

The classes are ongoing and suitable for both beginners and those who want to extend their skill base.

Passion &Legacy: Celebrating the work of the Lethbridge sisters 

Ornamental Embroidery will be running a three-hour workshop inspired by the work of the Lethbridge sisters, Julia Baroness Carew (1863-1922) and Lady Jane Cory (1865-1947). 
During their lifetime the sisters were famed throughout society for the needlework skills and for the scale of the embroideries they produced for Castleboro in Co. Wexford, the Carews' ancestral home, and for their town house in London.

A friendly shop supplying fabric, haberdashery and needlecraft goods to experienced textile crafters and keen beginners. Sew Dublin also provides classes and workshops for a diverse range of needlework and textile craft techniques. We love to sew, to create and make!

Sew Dublin offers a variety of classes and workshops in their dedicated studio at the shop. It is a beautiful and atmospheric open space with lots of light and is fully equipped with sewing machines, cutting tables and all the tools and notions you need to get creative.

Classes are evolving over time with more topics and dates being added regularly so check their website  for updates.

Workshops from The Craft Lounge, Dublin



Machine Embroidery
It's addictive! Join us for some machine embroidery fun and learn to applique too! We will create some lovely drinks coasters to start you off.
All materials are provided. We have sewing machines but you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer.

Cushion Making & Applique
Learn to create a beautiful cushion cover and add your own twist with applique decoration. This is a great class for someone who is rusty with sewing but wants to get back at it and have something FANTASTIC to proudly display in their home. Once you have it figured out you will be making them for everyone!  Familiarize yourself with sewing terminology, use a basic pattern, threading a machine, wind a bobbin and stitch seams.
All materials & refreshments are provided.

Natural Soap Making
Learn to create your own natural soap with Vanessa Finlow of Very Pure. We will demonstrate the cold process soap making technique from start to finish. Combining all natural ingredients,  essential oils and natural additives you will leave armed with the knowledge to experiment and create your own beautifully scented lathering luxury.
All materials provided - just bring an apron.

Natural Cosmetic Making
This harsh weather is still giving our skin a beating even in Spring! So why not come learn to make some lovely natural bath and body products to soothe and pamper! You will make a body scrub, bath bombs, a skin soothing balm and a moisturizing body bar. Take them all home nicely wrapped with full instructions to make lots more.
Refreshments & materials are provided just bring an apron.

Knicker Making Workshop
This is a favourite with our hen parties so we decided to give you all a chance to make some! There will be prosecco, silk, ribbon and trims and hopefully lots of pretty knickers made.

Crochet - beginners
This 3-week crochet course on Monday evenings will teach you the chain stitch, double and treble crochet, shaping, and pattern reading. You will learn to differenciate between American and UK crochet terms so you can take on any pattern confidently. 

Course tutor Katie Hanlan is a crochet, textile and knit genius and her work is a regular on catwalks for London fashion week. Katie creates crochet pieces for John Rocha as well as running her own design studio.  

All materials for the class are provided and you are welcome to bring your own yarn and hooks too.

This two hour hands-on workshop explores the creative techniques of hand embroidery using traditional basic stitches with a contemporary creative approach.
