NEWS: Craft Inspired Covers

The Postmistress cover by Jenny Hart;
The Jane Austen Book Club cover by Helen Musselwhite

We recently came across this article on 'Creative Review', about a series of Penguin books that are being re-published, with re-designed covers. Naturally enough, we love them!!

Six of Penguin's most popular recent fiction titles have been redesigned as a set with new craft-inspired covers. The Penguin By Hand series makes use of embroidery, crochet and quilting, with each technique further evoked on paper through the use of some serious embossing...

Colour and Design for Tapestry - Workshop in Co. Cork

WHERE SOLID MEETS VOID

Colour and Design Workshop for Tapestry with Joan Baxter

In the Dancing Threads Weaving Studio,
Midleton,
Co. Cork

29 October - 2 November 2012

This five day class is divided into two parts - colour and composition - and is inspired by horizons, places where land meets sky, where solid meets void.

Students should take their own photographs on this theme beforehand to use as source material for the class.

Firstly we will explore multi-stranded weft techniques for the colour mixing and matching techniques I have developed over the years.  Students will work on samples to create a colour palette from their photographic source.

Second we will explore ways of creating tapestry designs from our source photograph and colour samples. Students can either design and weave a miniature tapestry during the class or work on a design for a larger piece and weave samples for it.

The class is suitable for all learners except complete beginners.
The colour component of the class will take place on days 1 and 2 and the design/weave section will be on days 3 - 5. Students may attend either or both parts of the class.

29 – 30 October: Colour with multi-stranded weft technique, €110
31 October – 2 November: Composition for tapestry weaving, €165
Full 5 day workshop, €260
A deposit of €50 secures your place.

The days start at 9.45 am and finish at 4.30 pm

Soup (V, GF), bread (selection, some gluten free), coffee, tea and biscuits will be provided.

For registration, materials list and directions to the studio or any question you may have:
