The Woolly Way is a comprehensive resource site for Textiles in Ireland. For practitioners, designers, hobbyists, groups, for the people at home and for visiting tourists.
We recently came across an interesting Nordic website textelis.net, which has some very interesting articles on textiles and archaeology. It belongs to Viveka Hansed , a professional textile historian.
"The chosen path for my education in textile history is rare and based on
a symbiosis of practical textile training within the Swedish Handicraft
Association, theoretical work and academic studies primarily in the
humanity subjects. Through the years I have completed further
theoretical research in European collections, first and foremost in the
United Kingdom and the Nordic countries. Added with textile experiments –
in the areas of historical weaving, dyeing, needlework, knitting,
plaiting and lace – so in the best possible way be able to develop new
contexts for questions related to my work."

Baur fromFlax Mill Textiles, with their latest news. It is heartwarming to see one of the few remaining traditional linen weaving mills thriving! They have expanded their business and their workforce, bringing much needed life to a small town. Indeed, one of their projects is quite interesting. Call for Papers. Deadline date: Wednesday 4th September at 5pm. The
Irish Museums Association would like to invite submissions of papers
for the IMA Forum: Textile Collections, open to curators, conservators,
archivists and other museum professionals, to be held on Friday 18
October from 10.30am to 4pm in Dublin City Centre (location tbc).
Submissions
may cover a variety of topics relating to the management, care and
history of textile collections. These can include original research;
case studies; history of collections; education; care & storage; and
review papers. The purpose of this forum, an initiative of the Irish
Museums Association, is to give you a chance to share your findings,
debate and engage with others working with textile collections in
museums, galleries and cultural institutions. This
full-day event will comprise up to eight presentations of 15 minute
duration, with generous time for discussion and will be followed by a
workshop.

The proposal should include: name, organisation (if applicable), contact details, short personal bio (80 words max.) presentation title presentation abstract (200 words max.)
Deadline
for receipt of submissions is Wednesday 4 September 5pm. All applicants
will be notified by email within one week of submission deadline.
Applicants will need to be available to present on Friday 18 October.
Presentations will be no more than 15-minutes long, with extra time
allocated for panel Q&A. Successful applicants will need to confirm
technical requirement details within one week of being notified.
This week sees the start of National Heritage Week. There is a wealth of events, places to visit, talks, lectures, workshops etc, running throughout the country. "National Heritage Week 2013 which takes place nationwide from 17th –
25th August 2013, looks set to reach a record total of 1700 events this
year, the majority of which will be FREE to attend. From dancing at the
crossroads in Cork, prehistoric hunting games in Donegal, touring the
tenements of Dublin City from 2013, learning about the Wicklow Gold Rush
of 1795 to becoming a mini ranger for the day and exploring the
wildlife of Clara Bog in Offaly… there is something for everyone to
enjoy during National Heritage Week."

Street.
The Mill historical textile tours will now be held every
Saturday. You’ll see parts of this beautiful building not normally open to
the public and discover the fascinating history of the mills, the linen and the
