Strandhill Gymkhana, Co. Sligo

The annual Craft Fair at the Strandhill Gymkhana has expanded year by year into a fascinating mix of heritage crafts and modern art. A magnificent display of locally made ceramics and pottery from Breeogue Pottery always takes pride of place.

4th July 2009

There will be demonstrations of Lace-making by members of the Strandhill ICA group, who run Dolly's Cottage.

One of the few remaining straw weavers in the region, Ted Kelly, demonstrates his craft while making baskets for all purposes as people watch with interest. There will also be stained glass, watercolour paintings by Anne Osborne, acrylic paintings by Monica O’Mara and other visual arts can be enjoyed side by side with demonstrations of traditional butter making, and the making of boxty. Hand-grown organic herbs from Dromard, hand-made cards from Grange, a new range of ceramic angel statues – all these and lots more will be seen in the Craft Marquee at the top of the hill.

As well as Sheep Dog Trials, Sheep Shearing Exhibition, Children's Fancy Dress, Irish Dancing
and much more.
