Update from KOZO Studio: ART WORKSHOP PROGRAMME - June 2009

We continue our workshop programme with a number of courses on various Hand Papermaking Techniques coming up in May and June – a great way to start Summer time! There are workshops for beginners and for those who have previous experience in the unusual and fascinating art form of hand paper making and paper art.

There is more to come, we have a number of workshops to follow in August, September and October and we have organized a programme of SUMMER ART CAMPS for children at the St. Mary's National School in Thomastown for the month of July.

All KOZO Workshops and Courses are facilitated by established artists and experienced arts educators, follow an experimental approach to learning and in most cases can be tailored to the specific needs to those attending.

All workshops are held at purpose built, well equipped studios, for a limited number of participants per class.

Bennettsbridge, Co. Kilkenny
13th June (Saturday) 10.30am – 5.30pm

HAND PAPERMAKING Techniques I.
This is a one-day workshop on hand papermaking techniques, using natural fibres of cotton, bamboo, abaca and esparto grass combined with recycled material. Participants will be introduced to basic, traditional and contemporary techniques of hand paper making. Incorporating dried flowers, herbs and other plant material into layers of wet pulp, they will create several different papers, textured pieces and unique images. Due to the naturally slow drying process handmade papers will need to be transported while wet and dried at home.

This course is suitable for beginners or participants with some experience in Hand Papermaking.
Tutor: Tunde Toth – Fibre artist, paper maker, arts facilitator, KOZO Studio
Fee: € 80 – including all art materials (full time students: € 70)

SILK PAPERMAKING Techniques I.
This is a one-day, experimental workshop, introducing two techniques used in Silk Papermaking.
Using a variety of natural materials – raw silk and bamboo fibres, cocoon strippings, hand dyed silk tops, throwsters fibres, silk threads...etc – participants will create plain or colourful, textured, decorative, ``fabric – like`` papers. These unique pieces are suitable for writing, painting, textile art- and collage works, stitching, embroidery and are ideal for 3 dimensional, sculptural projects. The workshop also introduces experimental processes, decorating methods and ideas using fibre reactive textile dyes on silk papers. This course is suitable for beginners or participants with some experience in Hand Papermaking.
