Donegal Yarns  Spinning Mill in Kilcar, Co. Donegal, can trace it’s origin back to the century’s old tradition of homespun Donegal (tweed) effect yarns.

South Donegal, an area noted for its isolated beauty is located between the Bluestack mountains to the East and the wild Atlantic to the West. It was in this area a style of yarn recognized worldwide as a “Donegal” was born.

The inspiration for this unique yarn has been attributed to the beauty of the local landscape :- a background of green valleys, brown hills, blue seas and grey skies with the speckled contrasts of the blue and purple of the heathers, the grey rocks and white sheep on the hills.

It is from this illustrious background that Donegal Yarns has evolved and emerged as the modern face of this craftsmanship. Today a team of Twenty-one people using skills handed down through the generations work to produce these unique Donegal (tweed) effect yarns for the weaving and knitting industry.
