Contemporary Souvenir by Deirdre Nelson & The Cobh Fish Exchange

Two exhibitions stemming from a residency with this Scottish textile artist: Contemporary Souvenir is comprised of work made by Deirdre Nelson during her artist residency at Sirius Arts Centre in 2011 and 2010.
Cobh Fish Exchange is a collaborative/collective project involving community groups from all over Ireland, who answered Deirdre’s call for a mackerel run of the textile variety!
‘The
fish exchange’ is a project which began in Scotland and now has spread
to many coastal areas. Communities are knitting and sewing fish.
Deirdre Nelson has been artist in residence at Sirius Arts Centre in
Cobh and has been looking at the history of lace making in the area.
With an interest in lace making and the abundance of mackerel in Cobh,
Deirdre has developed a community project which will celebrate the
skills of textile workers past and present using both traditional and
contemporary skills.
