Spotted this on the Voluntary Arts Ireland updates. Not only a fantastic group project, but a mention of a very, very interesting exhibition!
Multicultural Women's Quilting Group: Global Women
area: Coleraine
dates: starts Tuesday 9th November 2010
Kilcranny House Future Communities project in partnership with Kilcranny's Ethnic Minority Support Worker wish to invite you to participate in a Multicultural Women's quilting group. By the end of this project this group will have completed a quilt collectively that they hope will be put on exhibition. This quilt will celebrate the participants' life experiences, their diversity and their commonality. No experience is required, actually no experience is preferred!
This programme will run for 6 weeks before Christmas and possibly a few weeks afterwards.
In order to get some inspiration for this quilting project, the first meeting of the Multicultural Women's group will be a trip to Derry/ Londonderry on Tuesday 9th November to visit: `The Human Cost of War: An exhibition of quilts and arpilleras at the Tower Museum`
This exhibition includes a selection of textile pieces created by women from across the world. The textile pieces address various forms of conflict and war as experienced by women from across the globe.
A bus will leave from Coleraine at 10.30 and it will return to Coleraine at 4.30. Lunch will be provided!
It is free to participate in this project thanks to the International Fund for Ireland. Email paddy.mcnicholl@kilcrannyhouse.org or telephone 028 7032 1816 if you are interested in participating.
